October 30, 2009WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 29) – The Florida A&M University Women’s Volleyball team blanked Winston-Salem State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-12) in a non-conference match Friday night.

Junior Jovana Blazeski led FAMU (10-8) with 21 kills, while Maria Gomez and Maria Ceccarelli had seven kills each.

Junior setter Jessica Bond dished out 35 assists, while Susan Egoavil and Blazeski each had nine (9) digs.

The Lady Rattlers were solid on defense against WSSU (4-28), holding the Lady Rams to just 15 kills total Friday night.

FAMU returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Sunday at 12 noon against the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies in the Corbett Center in Greensboro, N.C.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will host Florida A&M on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at UNF Arena.

Leading the Ospreys (6-7, 2-4 A-Sun) are junior outside hitters Kaley Read and Danielle Lerch. Read is averaging 4.1 kills and 2.37 digs per set while Lerch is adding 3.05 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Paige Pridgeon is posting 2.39 kills and a team-best 2.43 digs per set. Junior setter Jessica Catelano is posting 9.85 assists per set.

For the Rattlers (3-6) Jovanna Blazeski is leading the team with 4.03 kills and 3.17 digs per set. Maria Gomez is adding 3.03 kills per set while Pamela Barrera and Maria Ceccarelli are both adding 2.14 and 2.06 kills per set, respectively. Jessica Bond is notching 10.40 assists per set. On the defensive side Susan Egoavil is adding a team leading 3.51 digs per set.

The Ospreys are looking to pick up their first win in the series as the Rattlers have the 4-0 all-time advantage. UNF and FAMU last met in 2007 when the Rattlers picked up a pair of wins. Read averaged 3.0 kills per set against the Rattlers as a freshman.

Single-game tickets for volleyball matches are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 17-and-under and senior citizens 55-and-older. Children 2-and-under and any current UNF student with a valid Osprey1 Card are admitted free. Student guest passes for those events are $3 and limited to one per student.
